Let’s all admit it, we love to turn heads when we walk across a room. As long as it’s for good reasons of course! Having a great bum will certainly do that, and we all think about how our bum will look when we choose an outfit. There’s a reason that “does my bum look big in this” is such a famous phrase! So what are the top ways to be the proud owner of the best bum in the room? These are the best clothing tricks, underwear, and exercises to get you there.
Dress to impress
Composing an outfit is a technical science. And dressing to accentuate your bum is no different. With certain styles, colours and designs that are the most flattering for your bum, all of your natural shape can be allowed to shine!
Waistlines
Go high waist every time to show off your bum. Yes, hipsters are back and they definitely have their place. However, showcasing a round bottom is not it. From jeans to leggings to a pencil skirt, a high waistline surrounds your whole bum. Dresses should be cinched in at the waist rather than shift styles.
Colours
Light, bright colours are great to accentuate your bum. Think the opposite of black. Horizontal stripes of colour blocking can be specifically helpful. If you want to get super detailed, find a skirt that has a colour block change right below your bum. This frames and draws the eye right to your buttocks! For jeans, go for either white or a light colour wash – and make them skinny jeans.
Tightness
Skinny jeans work for a reason. The clinginess from waist to ankle not only highlights your existing shape, but gives it structure too. This is why leggings and stretch fabric dresses are similarly great. The key is in the fabric. Stretch fabrics that aren’t strong or supportive enough could be counterproductive if they don’t give your body enough all round support.
Choose your underwear
Supportive underwear will give you more flexibility in terms of the fabrics that you choose as they build a strong foundation. Good underwear will mould and accentuate the shape (in this case your bum) that you want to show off. It’ll also keep you secure, comfortable and confident. All good things!
Thong
Unless you have full briefs that are specifically designed to round your buttocks, it’s best to go for a thong underneath supportive clothes. This is especially true for clingy leggings or yoga pants. A thong will eradicate VPL and give your bum pride of place.
Control Briefs
You might think of control briefs as being all about flattening your tummy. However, many ranges work to smooth your tummy whilst also shaping your bum and hips. There’s an extra advantage from the panelling of control briefs, as a smoother front simultaneously works to accentuate the curve of your behind!
Shaping Shorts
Offering the ultimate in bum framing, shaping shorts give the best bum coverage and support. Compression runs from your waist to your thighs, so your bum silhouette is perfectly rounded and lifted.
Practice
Little and often workouts on the gluteus maximus are the way to a toned and perky bum. Your size doesn’t matter here – it’s the state that your muscles are in that builds the foundation of your shape. So to improve your bum long term, give it a little focus!
Squats
Classic squats focus on the muscles in your bum, so add in a couple of rounds when you work out. You can add in a kettle bell for increased strength work, or squat jumps for variety.
Glute Bridges
Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet on the floor. With arms flat against the floor, slowly raise and lower your hips. There are loads of variations with this, such as raising a single leg, or bringing in sit ups. However it’s the hip movements that will work on your bum muscles.
Even if your bum has always been a bit you don’t like, we’re willing to bet that it’s actually pretty great. With a bit of support and confidence, we hope that you’ll come to see that too!
