On the 6th August it’s National Sisters Day AND National Friendship Day. Coincidence? We think not! Whether or not the girl friends with whom you share your thoughts, troubles and ridiculous in jokes are related to you by blood is irrelevant. Your closest women are incredibly important humans. The most important some would argue. So we want to celebrate all that’s wonderful and irreplaceable about the girls. And in celebration of Sister’s day, we’re going to do it with the letter S.
S is for Support
Whether you’re getting over heartbreak or embarking on a new challenge, your sisters are there to support you. They’ll give you encouragement when you need it and will probably even come along for the ride. When you need to rant after a hard day, or when you know you’re being a little bit unreasonable, they’ll just listen. Like a trusty pair of shaping shorts, they’ll hold you up when you feel in need.
S is for Secrets
Us girls talk about everything. And we mean EVERYTHING! We do this because of the uncompromising trust that girl friends and sisters build their relationships on. Your girls know that the reason that you’re turning heads with a knockout hourglass silhouette is down to your control slip. But would they let on? Of course not! In fact they probably went shopping with you for it in the first place!
S is for Shopping
Which brings us onto our next ‘S’… OK some of us admittedly would rather stick pins in our eyes than go shopping. But going ‘shopping’ can just mean a lovely long lunch and a well overdue catch up. There will be times in your life when you’re not hanging out together very much. The daily grind of work, family and logistics gets in the way of even the most dedicated socialite. Every now and then, though, you’ll get together for shopping, chatting or dancing and it’ll feel like no time has passed at all!
S is for Silliness
Ever laughed so much that your drink splattered out of your nose? We bet it was with your girl friends! The space between women gives us the chance to be unashamedly ourselves. No matter how daft that may be. We also build a shared history together, and we all have really good memories when we need to. So that time when you had to help your mate out of her bodysuit to go to the loo will undoubtedly come up and bring on the giggles!
S is for Strength
We don’t always feel strong. Sometimes we need a bit of help. How do our girl friends make us strong? Sometimes it’s simply knowing that they’re there. Or perhaps they physically push our comfort zones. We all have that one friend with whom we do things that we’d never dream of doing on our own. This might be anything from a parachute jump to a Zumba class to buying a set of lingerie. With this strength we grow, which is always a good thing.
S is for Sisterhood
Your female support network may end up scattered all over the world, and you’ll have times when life gets in the way of physically being there with each other. This is actually what makes sisterhood so amazing. Because even through the years when they’re out of sight, they’re still there. And they’ll be there when you need them. They’re your roots and your foundation. They’re the physical embodiment of your shapewear wardrobe, if you will!
