With summer fast approaching, many of us have started to crave sunny shores and far off destinations. With nothing but the promise of a golden tan and a large cocktail in our minds, it’s easy to forget how much of a nightmare travelling can be. Picture this, you’re in a 15-minute long queue in airport security, straighteners and toiletries in hand and your patience is deflating by the second. Trust us, we’ve all been there!
To top this off, we are all faced with the age-old dilemma of what to wear on the plane. All of your beautiful summer clothes are packed away neatly in your case and what you’re left with is a stretchy pair of 3 year old jeans that just won’t do you any favours! Wearing jeans on a plane should be a cardinal sin! We are here to make the travelling experience that little bit more marvellous by creating a guide on what to wear and what to take on the plane that will make your experience much more enjoyable. Here are some of the must-have items to pack with you on the plane.
Keep it fresh and fun
If you’re a woman who goes to the airport in rollers, heeled wedges and a full face of makeup, then good for you! Our generation applauds you for your efforts! If you’re going for a more low-key look, comfort is essential, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to compromise on style. Try switching up your everyday items for a brighter, lighter option.
Leggings – Everyone needs a trusty pair of leggings to wear for long journeys or those lazy days at home. Leggings are great for travel as they are non-restrictive, easy to manoeuvre (especially in the airplane toilet) and they look great with pretty much anything. To add a touch of holiday magic to your look, opt for brighter colours or a pattern. For many of us, gym leggings are a guilty loungewear pleasure. These are also a great option for travelling as the compression assists with blood flow when in the air. This will prevent blood clots and promote healthy circulation in your legs.
Maxi Dresses – Maxi dresses are making a comeback in a huge way in 2019. The classic jersey maxi dress is the perfect travelling companion. Paired with light control plus size control briefs and a denim jacket, this outfit will have you looking and feeling amazing. Stripes are a timeless classic for maxi dresses, this is a perfect look for travelling and also for a sunny day at the beach.
Comfort is key
Okay, let’s talk shoes! You should always look for a comfortable, breathable pair of shoes when you’re travelling. For most of us, it’s commonplace for our feet to swell up when we travel, so it’s important to have footwear that isn’t restrictive or tight, as this can lead to circulation issues.
Sliders – Sliders are a little bit of heaven that have been sent to earth to grace our feet! They’re a perfect option for a long haul flight and come in a range of colours, styles and patterns. Sliders allow complete freedom and, as the name would suggest, they’re easy to ‘slide’ off when you need to stretch out your feet on a flight. Alternatively, flip flops and sandals are equally as effective. Be sure to paint your toenails with your open toe shoe choices, as this will help you to feel polished and pampered on your holiday!
Neck pillow – Okay, we need to talk about the importance of having a proper travel pillow when you fly. Airplane seats are extremely restrictive and getting into a comfortable seating position can seem like an impossible task. If you experience discomfort when you fly, choose a travel pillow that allows your spine and neck to align. This will prevent stiffness on long-haul flights!
Faithful hoodie – Any time of day or destination calls for a comfy hoodie to fly in. Wherever you’re flying to, the plane cabin is going to have a little bit of a chill in the air, due to the altitude you’re flying at. Find a comfy hoodie to throw on over your outfit when you get cold, as this will keep you looking and feeling great before you reach your destination.
Airplane skincare
Airplane skincare isn’t talked about enough! Have you ever been to the bathroom on an airplane, looked in the mirror and been horrified at the state of your skin? Us too!
The cabin air is stale, dry and can be really damaging to your skin. There’s nothing worse than touching down in paradise with a big pimple starting to show, or your skin breaking out in a dry, red rash. So, as silly as you may feel, indulge in a little bit of in-flight pampering and put on a hydrating sheet mask as you travel. Accompany this with a hydrating face mist and your skin will be glowing by the time you touch down in your destination.
Remember, comfort is key when you travel, but make sure you have some fun with it… you are on holiday after all!
