How will you be emerging from lockdown? Feeling confident? Looking “Summer Body Ready”?
Who cares! Will any of us get a summer holiday anyway?! You may have kept entertained over the last couple of months by working out with Joe Wicks, baking up a storm, or drinking ever more inventive cocktails. Whichever way, we reckon summer body confidence will be a little bit left-field this year… As lockdown eases, most of us will be feeling a bit weird about life in general let alone about how our bodies fit into it all. So if you need a bit of a mental pick me up, check out our tips on how to gain inner confidence in your summer body. No matter what.
Dress in a way that makes you feel in control and you’ll always look amazing. If you prefer longer, flowing lines, choose light fabrics that will keep you cool. If you’re worried about your underlying silhouette, just make sure your foundation is secure with a bodysuit or control shorts. Summer does not automatically mean skimpy. But having said that, if you like skimpy then go for it! And know that the freedom that you feel means that you can just enjoy being in the sun (don’t forget the SPF!) The same goes for swimwear. Think that bikinis aren’t for you? Think again. You can use all the extra time spent in your garden to practice if you like!
Herald the coming of summer with a wardrobe purge! As you rifle through tops, shorts, dresses and swimwear you may find some stuff that you’d forgotten was there. And they may just take your fancy this time! Pop on your favourite pair of control briefs and try everything on. Only then will you know if you like the way it makes you feel. If nothing else, a good old sort out of your wardrobe will leave you feeling mentally lighter and more in control. It’s these things which work wonders for your confidence.
Choosing Your Colours
We’re all more inclined to wear brighter colours and bolder patterns come Summer. This is down to our need to reflect our environments. Vibrant colours have the power to make you feel more positive. This year, even more so, a splash of colour might go towards adding that holiday feeling that you may be lacking! Prints are still bang on trend so embrace florals, checks and spots. If it’ll help your core confidence, choose smaller ditsy patterns or mix with block colour to make your outfit more slimline.
This has nothing to do with what you’re wearing, but it is very much about what you surround yourself with. Fresh air and greenery have the power to ground us in a way that gives us a sense of mental calm. This then provides the basis for a true body confidence. Spending time walking outside will also give you a healthy glow and straighter posture. Try sitting up straight now – it will always help you to feel more confident.
Don’t Ever Compare
While you’re purging your wardrobe, why not give your social media the same treatment? All those filtered aspirational instagram posts that make you feel down are about as realistic as the tooth fairy. So pause, mute and unfollow to your heart’s content. You’ll feel a lot more in control and confident in your own worth.
The answer to all the Summer Body noise you hear should always be; “It is Summer and I have a body!” There is no reason that you shouldn’t feel confident with your summer body just as you are. And if you enjoy the feeling of some extra control in your foundation level, then you’re absolutely in the right place!
