They’ve been cropping up all over the place in Spring/Summer collections, but stripes can be daunting. There’s a long standing view that stripes worn the wrong way can be catastrophic for a look. But is this really true in 2022? When every conceivable stripe seems to be an option, what is the best way to wear stripes this Spring?
Bright Colours
Vibrant colours remain popular for 2022. Indeed, Spring is the perfect time to go for this colour trend that is full of optimism and joy.
Pink
There are some great nautical pink shades in this season’s Breton stripe offering. You can go as bright as you feel comfortable with. Or go super bold with a hot pink and red clashing stripe.
Green
Green hued stripes are a wonderful fresh colour for Spring. Lime greens are eye catching and fun, while mint greens are more gentle and calming. Military green shades are great for a splash of the utilitarian look that will continue into 2022.
Bold Statement
2022 is the year to go all out with your stripes. While subdued and subtle stripes will always work, statement stripes are the way to go for the 2022 wow factor.
Tiger
We can’t remember a time when animal prints weren’t on trend. They’re here to stay, and so the best way to combine your styles is to channel your inner tiger! Tiger prints can be anything from natural shades to bright neons, so be as bold as you dare.
Rainbow
There’s no pattern that lends itself to incorporating a kaleidoscope of colour quite like a stripe. We’ve seen some amazing multicolour stripe trousers, tops and dresses. These statement fabrics are sure to make you smile!
Long Skirts
Maxi skirts are back for 2022, and are a great design for the Spring. They offer protection for colder days, and ventilation for hotter days. We all need that flexibility with the Great British weather!
Diagonal
Bias stripes are ideal for longer skirts, as they accentuate the curves you want them to without highlighting any curves you’re disguising! From candy stripes to monochrome, or even rainbow, this is a fun and fresh print for spring.
Pleats
Not strictly a stripe, but 2022 is going all out for pleating. The slimmer the pleats the better this Spring, giving the feel of a stripe without the stripe. The best thing is that pleating allows you to incorporate other trends into your look like florals or animal prints.
Short Skirt
The ’90s (or ’60s depending on how many times you want to circle back) micro mini skirt returns for Spring, and stripes are taking centre stage.
Vertical
We’re seeing so many vertical stripes on micro minis this Spring. From A-line to stretch to skater, this is a fabulously flirty way to wear your stripes!
Striped Trim
For a sportier look, choose a go faster striped trim for your mini skirt. This look gives echos of ‘90s cheerleader to add a bounce to your step.
Dresses
Worried that a stripy dress is a bit full on? Not in 2022! There are some fantastic Spring designs available that incorporate stripes into a super on trend shape.
Cut outs
Dresses with cut outs are a real going ‘out out’ style. Holes are cut the shoulder, lower back, tummy or chest. They don’t have to be massive, some are very discreet. Just be careful of any overlap between cut out and shapewear!
Halter neck
Embrace warmer temperatures (hopefully) with halter necklines in dresses. Spaghetti straps and wide bands are equally on trend so there’s versatility in this design too.
Trousers
Vertical trouser stripes are always floating around, and 2022 embraces all the variety you can imagine.
Sporty
Limit yourself to a stripy nod with a sporty go faster stripe down the outside leg. Waistlines in casual styles are set to be low slung if you dare.
Tailored
Elegant and structured tailoring continues to feature in Spring 2022 looks. So embrace a fun multicolour stripe, or go more formal with a classic pin stripe.
