This Autumn, why limit your style inspiration to the catwalks and the high street? When a street style has so much to offer, you can restyle your look in a much more individual way. We take in looks from around the world so you can keep only what floats your boat! The great thing about plus-size street style is that these looks are constructed by real women with real shapes in mind. And it’s wearable stuff! So what ideas and concepts are out there? And what’s the best way to wear them?
Coats
Autumn’s on its way, so the street style is starting to turn up its lapels and showcase some greatcoats. There’s a lot of tailoring, whether we’re talking trench coat or bomber jacket, sharp lines are all over the place. Wear your bombers short and your trench long. Belted waists work with your control briefs to accentuate your waist. Alongside some classic neutral tones, we’ve seen great printed coats out there. From a stunning green snakeskin in New York to cowgirl plaid in Stockholm. For more casual looks, denim jackets are top street styling right now. Use them to layer up and dress down your party look.
Prints
Animal prints aren’t going anywhere and we’re seeing some great figure-hugging leopard prints out there. Add to the list that classic of formalwear, dogtooth print. There’s a lot of all-over patterns, from sweeping dresses to matching two or even three-piece outfits.
Shoes
Autumn waves goodbye to the strappy sandal and hello to boots and trainers. Go branded and bright for trainers, with as many colours or prints as you dare. Statement boots are the order of the day, whether they’re thigh-high and printed or chunky heeled and bright.
Activewear
Street styles go for classic logo T’s tied at the midriff – think Nike and Adidas. If brands aren’t your bag, go for statement T’s with slogans and band motifs. We enjoyed the bold “Size is just a number” in Poland and “Bad Vibes don’t go with my outfit” in Brooklyn. Activewear is styled with confidence in California – a dusty grey cycling short / crop top combo is a confident and active style. Or as the nights draw in, cosy up with a hoodie dress, under which you can flash some leg or layer with thick tights or leggings.
Quirky
We’ve spied some great asymmetrical looks. One shouldered dresses and tops and sloping shoulder bags and hemlines. Vibrant satin doesn’t have to just be for nights out. Let’s face it, those days are pretty few and far between right now! So style your satin for daywear by teaming it with denim. Just keep a solid foundation so the satin doesn’t cling anywhere you don’t want it to over the course of the day! High waisted shaping shorts are ideal for most scenarios.
90’s Retro
Layer and contrast your stripes, checks and denim for that 90’s grunge look with strong looks from Baltimore and Texas. Or swing by the early 90’s rave scene with funky tie-dye. We’ve seen everything from T-shirts to jumpsuits. Keep it cute and pastel for a contemporary accent and don’t forget your foundation wear to best show off the colours.
Accessories
Autumn’s a great season for hats. We’ve seen casually worked trilby styles in Nashville and low slung bucket hats in London. Matching masks are all around and it’s clear that street styles are embracing expression through statement masking. As always, the scarves feature in Autumn street style looks. Dress up with satins or down with chunky knits.
Your street style should be an expression of you, and wearing it confidently is key to working your look. So start with a comfortable and flattering foundation layer for a lasting sleek silhouette.
