If there’s one thing we can say with certainty, it’s that everyone has problem areas with their figure. Bits they don’t really like, that makes them feel insecure, and that even if no one else notices, cause a big dip in confidence. And it’s one of the big reasons why an outfit that looks amazing on someone else might not look flattering on you.
The good news is, many of these wardrobe problems can be solved using the right shapewear. Whether that’s highlighting and enhancing your best spots or concealing your trouble zones, the right piece of shapewear really can make all the difference, especially for these 5 common problems.
Muffin Top
This might be the single most common wardrobe problem women come across, and it’s largely down to how women’s clothing is designed, unfortunately. A muffin top happens when the waistband of your trousers or skirt squeezes against your middle, so that any excess tummy, hip and back chub spills over the top.
Shapewear Solution: Thankfully this common problem has an easy solution. Choosing shapewear with a high waist redistributed any chub you have and stops it bunching up at the waistline. This gives you a smooth foundation for your outfit from the under-bust to your mid-thigh. And if you’re worried about it rolling or slipping during wear, you can get removable straps that attach to your bra and keep everything in place.
Pooch
This is another waist-based problem, but in a slightly different place and for a slightly different reason. A ‘pooch’ is the gathering of fat and loose skin below your belly button, and can leave you with a ‘flabby’ look. This is completely normal, and can be caused by anything from ageing, genetics, weight loss/gain or, most commonly, pregnancy. But it can cause problems when dressing sometimes, even if most people have one!
Shapewear Solution: ‘Flabby abs’ can be solved simply by choosing shapewear that pulls it all in! This means pieces that provide compression in the abdominal area, including wait trainers or shaping shorts, and even high-support bodysuits.
Armpit Fat
This is a big problem for many older or larger ladies, especially at this time of year, when all you want to do is wear tank tops and strapless dresses. It’s that annoying excess skin and/or flesh in the underarm area and armpit area, also known as ‘bra overspill’.
Shapewear Solution: Any shapewear with a built-in side slimmer will work perfectly here, or even a good bra with high sides. This includes shaping bras, vest-style shapewear and bodysuits. These slim the areas around your arms, push in the overspilling flesh and draw the attention away. Avoiding straight-cut tops is also a good way to control this, as it gives the flesh more places to go and prevents overspill.
Chub Rub
This issue strikes anyone with thighs that rub together when you walk. In skirts and dresses, you get chafing, and if you wear jeans or trousers then you end up with a fabric that’s worn and pilled on the inner thighs. RIP all those jeans that were good as new except for the thigh area!
Shapewear Solution: Thick bike short style shapewear is the perfect way to avoid the chub rub nightmare. They are not only ideal for relieving the discomfort of chafing, but they can give you much more control in the thigh area and protect your best jeans and trousers from wearing prematurely. They also don’t limit your wardrobe options, which is a nice added bonus.
Back Fat
A problem often going hand in hand with armpit fat, back fat is characterised by rolls of fat around the shoulder blades. It can often be made worse by bra bands and can make it difficult to wear dresses or tighter-fitting tops without displaying ‘rolls’.
Shapewear Solution: A well-fitting bra is your best friend here, and you can do a lot to reduce the problem without even reaching for the shapewear. If you’re still seeing issues, then a slimming camisole or compression vest can work wonders. Just avoid super thin fabrics and you’ll forget you ever worried about it.
Above all, shapewear is there to make you feel comfortable and confident, no matter what you’re wearing. We hope there’s something in our shapewear collection that can help you achieve that, and if there’s not, we’d love to hear from you!
