This summer holiday season, how confident are you feeling when heading down to the beach or poolside? Did you consider a ‘beach body’ programme way back in January? How did that pan out? If you’re anything like us, real life won! Do you worry about wearing a bikini? As we all start to jet off in our droves to enjoy some much needed beach and pool time, we want to blast some myths about those ‘terrifying’ bikinis…
What’s wrong with a one piece?
Nothing! In fact, there are some great and supportive options out there. Check out Elle Courbee’s specially selected range for a great look with maximum control. However, we know that every woman loves the freedom of choice! And one of those choices is the bikini.
What’s great about a bikini?
Bikini’s shouldn’t be about posing! They are the ultimate expression of freedom. And with well structured designs out there, you needn’t lose support. Plus size women should ultimately wear a bikini for these reasons:
- Your curves are awesome! So don’t hide them under a towel, or even a one piece.
- Bikinis are fun! From colours to cuts, there’s so much expression to embrace with a bikini.
- It’s hot on the beach! Don’t cover up when it’s hot. Just remember to suncream your middle…
- It makes you feel young! There’s something about a bikini that embraces a childish sense of fun. You’ll be building sandcastles in no time!
Argh, my tummy!
With the tummy area being one of womankind’s most bemoaned areas, the bikini can seem to be a horrifying prospect. This goes for everyone – plus size or not. While under your clothes you can rest with the confidence of a control girdle or other supportive shapewear, a bikini, by its very nature, sets our tummies free. So what should we change? Well, not our tummies. We say change attitudes first and foremost!
Who’s got an attitude?
Actually, it’s society’s attitude that really needs to change. Why should women dress according to some kind of expectation peddled by mass media imagery? Sadly, we’re not going to achieve massive social change before school’s out. So the next best thing is to start with you. Whatever your dress size, throw caution into the wind. You have our backing (for what it’s worth!) to wear what you very well like!
How to choose your bikini
If you’re still feeling nervous about a bikini, remember that bikinis (like women!) come in all shapes and sizes. You don’t have to plump for tiny scraps of fabric held together by dental floss. Although, if that’s what you like, then you go girl! Check out shorty bottoms and underwired and supportive tops. There’s even the tankini if you want to ease very gently into it!
Suits you, madam!
How do you know what suits you? Firstly, you need to be comfortable. So make sure you try on a variety of styles and wiggle and jump around just to make sure it sticks in place! Broader shoulders work best with full straps, while narrower shoulders look great in halterneck styles. If you want to maximise tan lines, avoid straps altogether. High rise waists are on trend and work really well for a classic look. As for colour, bright is best this season so go wild and most importantly, have fun!
When you’re not on a beach, shapewear is a great addition to your wardrobe. Maybe you have an evening engagement or a busy day about town. Then control briefs or shaping shorts can help you to take on the day or night with confidence. But on holiday, embrace the freedom of two-piece swimwear!
So, are you ‘Beach Body Ready’? Frankly, who cares! If you have a body and are going to a beach then go forth and enjoy whatever swimwear you care to!
