We’re well into festival season in the UK, and we’ve been seeing some fantastic looks in them there fields! Festivals are all about joy and expression, so it’s really important to be yourself. But when it comes to balancing the practical with the stylish, we can all sometimes need a helping hand! So we’ve picked out some iconic looks for the 2022 festival season that you can take some inspo from.
Footwear
OK, to a certain extent you have to err on the side of practical here. Even if the weather forecast says dry, take wellies! Now that’s sorted, what fashion footwear is big in 2022? Well, cowboy boots are a good bet. If the ground is dry, they’ll work with shorts and dress alike. And they won’t fall off when you’re bouncing around to your favourite band!
Headwear
The wild west theme continues in headwear, with western hats atop to keep shaded. Bucket hats are going nowhere, though, and continue to pop up in any conceivable colour and fabric. The great thing about a bucket hat is that they’re simple, easy to store and carry around for when you need some instant sun cover! After all, if there’s one thing that definitely isn’t an iconic look, it’s sunburn!
Crochet
A bang on trend incarnation of the bucket hat this year is in crochet. But this is just one way to wear your festival crochet! There are some fabulous crochet tops and mini dresses out there. They’re not just perfect for feeling and looking cool, but crochet makes for a hardy garment. One that’s certainly up for surviving through the most intense festival experience!
Sparkles
If the boho crochet look isn’t your thing, then sequins, diamanté and glitter fabrics of any description are also totally 2022. If it’s good enough for Harry Styles… From dresses to jumpsuits, a healthy dollop of spangle is a surefire way to inject some vibrancy into your festival look. It’s a sparkle that will be infectious to your mood, even if the rain clouds arrive!
Retro
It’s pretty clear from the bucket hats, boots, and fabrics that late 90’s early 00’s are big inspirations for this year’s festival goers. So to that end, retro style is the focus. This is great for your bank balance and the environment since it means that you can get your festival wardrobe from charity shops and second hand sources!
Slipdress
Big in the 90’s and it never really went away when it comes to festivals! A slip dress is an ideal versatile bottom layer to see you through. Add a hoodie, shirt or coat when it’s chilly and strip down when the sun’s out. Great with boots, great with sandals, or even barefoot. If the clinginess of a slip dress makes you wary, then just team with some mid-compression high waisted control briefs. This core control is easy going so it’s not a faff in the portaloo, but enough to keep you supported and comfortable.
Two piece
No, not a suit – but matching shirt and shorts. Wear them oversized and brightly coloured for the 2022 festival look. Layer with a strappy or bikini top for a little bit of sexiness. It’s also a great staple to mix and match with, so your festival rucksack is that bit lighter!
Strings
By which we mean phone on a string and water bottle on a string. Lash these two essentials to your body and there’s no need to lug around a tote bag. There are some lovely beaded and crochet carriers available to stay in keeping with your festival vibe.
If in doubt… Kate Moss it
Kate Moss inspired festival looks through the years will never date. So just Google any Glastonbury year since the turn of the millenium plus Kate Moss and you’ll have a range of images you can take a bit of inspiration from!
Our final thought is this – the most iconic festival look of all is one of community. Of different people coming together and being welcomed as themselves. So stay comfortable, be happy and enjoy!
