When it comes to Christmas planning, getting ahead of the game definitely takes the stress out of the festive season. In this post, however, we’re not going to focus on the gifts or the food shopping, or even how to decorate your home. No, we’re going to focus on an area that’s often thought of last minute – as women we do tend to put ourselves last, after all. We’re talking about planning your outfits for the festive season – and most importantly, making sure you’ve stocked up on the right plus size lingerie for your party outfits! Here’s our go-to list to festive-proof your wardrobe:
Select your Christmas Sweater
This is one of the highlights of the year in our office, and I don’t know about you, but it’s always the quiet ones, the most conservative dressers, who seem to throw caution to the wind and pick the most outrageous, over the top creations! We say join them, and go for it too, think sequins and embellishments galore. If your office is air conditioned and on the chilly side you can go for a thicker yarn, but if you’ve got radiators then choose a thinner jumper or a lovely festive hoody. If you’re looking for toning control under a more revealing sweater then try a slimming tank top, you want to still be comfortable at your desk and moving around, so this is a great option.
Christmas service outfit
It may be cold outside, but if you’ve got a Christmas service to go to at school, you needn’t leave your style emoji behind. Try a lovely wrap dress, they hide a multitude of sins, with thick tights and boots. For extra control, try wearing a slimming slip underneath. Our control body shaping slip is a particular favourite for its contouring and support. Finally, cover up with a gorgeous blanket wrap and you’ll also be hitting one of this season’s key style trends!
Party time!
The festive season is the time to invest in some serious party outfits. You may well have an office Christmas party as well as a New Year’s Eve event planned, so hit the shops early to avoid last-minute decisions which – let’s face it – we usually immediately regret and end up having to wear something we don’t feel great in, or recycle an old favourite. Before heading to the shops – or online – consult our recent blog post on slimming party dresses. There’s definitely something for everyone, not matter your style. When it comes to plus size shapewear, think about your body shape and the area you need to address. Here are some tips:
- If you’re an apple and have an undefined waist, then invest in some high waist control briefs or shaping shorts. Full body slips are also an excellent option, and you can choose under-bra options that hook into your own bra, allowing you to easily match the décolletage of your dress.
- If you’re a strawberry (or triangle) then you’ll have a larger bust with narrow hips and a smaller butt. Invest in a good plus size shaping bra, under-bra shaping slip or curve-enhancing shaping shorts if this is you.
- If you’re a pear (or inverted triangle) then you’ll have a smaller bust but larger hips and bottom. Control briefs, thigh-slimming panty girdles and shaping slips are all great for smoothing and contouring this body shape.
- Lastly, if you’re an hourglass, with an ample cleavage, wide hips and a smaller waist, then lucky you! Your Kardashian-esque physique is the one most women now covet and strive for, so maximise those curves with some high-waisted control briefs and a shaping cami.
Christmas day attire
OK, so we know this will be a busy day for all Mums out there, especially if you have little ones to run around after. Not only will you probably have been up since the early hours, but you’ve then got to navigate unwrapping those pesky vacuum-sealed and tie-wrapped gifts, and monitor pre-breakfast chocolate intake, all while preparing an amazing Christmas dinner. You may well just want to spend the whole day in your Juicy Couture velour tracksuit, à la Jennifer Lopez, but you’ll feel really refreshed if you grab a sparkly tunic and leggings, these are a great comfortable and practical combination for when you’re rushing around, or a lovely sparkly knit dress. If you’re feeling like you’ve already overindulged, then some light control briefs or a bodysuit are a great way to help hone your curves without being too constricting. As you glide down the stairs, ready for the obligatory Instagram shots, just don’t forget the Santa hat or reindeer antlers to complete your Christmas chic look!
So there you have it, by thinking ahead and planning your festive outfits you can take some of the stress out of the yuletide season (OK, maybe just a little given the enormity of the tasks ahead!) By going out now and getting everything you need, you can use the rest of the run up to Christmas on the things that really matter, making it the best one you can for you, your family and friends!
